Hotel della Fortezza

We enjoyed our stay in Sorano immensely. Our one disappointment was that we learned upon our arrival the hotel restaurant had closed for the season. Thay was one of the things we were looking forward to. Our tour of the underground was also canceled due to no guide available. A small amount of money gone with the booking but still a disappointment. I do recommend the hotel for its history and ambience. It is a great jumping off point for exploring the town.

This hotel and it's location exceeded our expectations. The setting is inside an old fortress located in the middle of a beautiful medieval town. Our walk through the town after dark was perhaps the highlight of our 3 week trip to Italy. The staff was extremely helpful. Breakfast was very good. Everything about this stay was good. We will make this a destination on our next trip.

How can you properly rate staying in a decently modern room in a 12th century fortress!!!! OMG it was the highlight of our 2 week Italy trip. From the very nice lady at reception to Alex, the young wine tasting/tour host, it was fantastic. We had dinner at the fortress also and it was really good. Pastry desert was delicious! Would make it a point to stay longer next time.

This is the only place I ever gave the highest rate. The place is magical , you live in top of a fortress with just breathtaking view, walk into the hotel through medieval stairs it’s already an experience. Breakfast was delicious and very rich and service just exceptional. Everything is just highest mark , you won’t find better value for money then this place.

We've stayed in a lot of "castle hotels", but never in an actual fortress from the Middle Age! You really sleep in the actual historic fortress, not in some annexed building as is commonly practiced by other hotels. We were warmly welcomed in a modern and richly decorated reception area, and offered a glass of wine as welcome drinks. The room was quite spacious and modern, and at this point it made us wonder why the hotel was so cheap (120 euros for Easter weekend) and only 3 star, which felt underrated compared to most other hotels we've visited in Italy. As our stay progressed, we realized that the property would still miss quite a few things to qualify for a 4th star (dusty room, no tea pot in the room, cheap shampoo/shower gel, no 24h reception, limited ability to open the window to see the view, limited options for breakfast (e.g., orange juice costs an extra 5 euro), etc.). However, these do not matter much, and we are extremely satisfied with our stay -- a real bargain for such a unique experience.
